Dear Diary – Knightdale
4/21/14 – MM began the process of upgrading this quadrangle to Arc 9.3. MM imported the Arc 3.2 file for Knightdale and saved it as Knightdale_DISTRIBUTABLE.mxd. MM set up the Knightdale folders and the Knightdale Geodatabase. MM saved the original files to the Shapefile folder and then MM started to thin out the herd to make the .mxd just made of feature classes.
4/22/14 – PB wanted to have map packages made for Rolesville and Knightdale, so MM prettied them up for export. MM got the .mxd to just have feature classes, not shapefiles. Then MM sent PB the map package for Knightdale.
4/29/14 – PB sent me back the .mxd for Knightdale. MM opened it up and reestablished the broken links. MM took the lat/long coordinates from the layout to the map view. MM put the .mxd in the Knightdale_DISTRIBUTABLE folder. MM had originally put the Knightdale_2014 personal geodatabase in the PRODUCTION folder, but MM moved it to the DISTRIBUTABLE folder. MM cut the links from the PRODUCTION folder and reestablished it in the DISTRIBUTABLE folder. MM put in the new scale bars and moved the headers to the top of the sheet.
5/1/14 – MM faded the Qal color. MM had to create a new data frame for the quadrangle, because there was no coordinate system assigned to the data frame and MM couldn’t change it to what MM wanted. So MM had to open everything in the new data frame and attach the layer files to each feature class. MM created the quad index. MM adjusted the layout and made it look pretty. MM adjusted the fonts so that they are consistent with other maps. MM began to make labels for units by turning seismic profiles and the coastal plain unit text to annotations.
5/2/14 – MM continued to label text on the quadrangle and finished it. MM saved the layout as a pdf and emailed to PB. He wanted me to turn inferred diabase into concealed diabase when on top of the Qal and coastal plain units, so MM started working on that, but ran out of time.
5/5/14 – MM finished the concealed diabase. MM saved the quad as a map package and emailed it to PB.
5/7/14 – PB wanted MM to add diabase lines to the map symbols section, along with explanatory text. So MM did.
5/12/14 – PB sent MM a pdf with yellow stickies on it to make corrections. So MM did, which included adding text to some symbols and adding new text to the layout. This includes new rock unit descriptions for Tphms and Tpgvl (formerly Tpgrv). MM made all the corrections, saved it as a pdf and emailed a map package to PB.
5/14/14 – MM sent PB an old version of a pdf that didn’t have the correct presentation of the diabase explanation in the layout, so MM fixed it and sent PB a new pdf.
7/29/14 – Put in tif image for IndexBox.
12/31/15 - MM uploaded latest version of Knightdale map to Google Drive:
