9/6/12 – Downloaded folders from PB for Pittsboro/Merry Oaks.

9/9/12 (Sun) – Opened the “MerryOaks_Pitts_PRODUCTION.mxd” and assessed what we had.  Then MM saved an .mxd – “Pittsboro_DISTRIBUTABLE.mxd” and started to eliminate any Merry Oaks data.  Then MM used the PittsboroQuadBox to clip any non-Pittsboro data.  MM loaded that data, by way of ArcCatalog, into the properly created feature classes for Pittsboro.  Then MM loaded those into the .mxd.  Once MM got the .mxd the way I wanted, MM worked on the symbols feature class.  MM properly attributed the symbols and started to pull them apart on the quad.

9/10/12 – MM put in the dip numbers and commenced to placing them around the symbols.

9/11/12 – MM finished placing the dip numbers and MM then fixed the cross section.  Then MM added map details and improved the layout.  

9/16/12 – MM brought in the rock unit descriptions and corrected the symbols in the layout.  MM brought in the sterographs and made other adjustments to the layout.  MM printed out a copy of the map for review.

9/18/12 – MM reviewed the map and made corrections.  MM then printed out a copy of the map.  MM gave the map to PB for changes.

9/20/12 – MM fixed PB’s corrections and printed out a copy for Ken to review.

9/21/12 – MM fixed Ken’s corrections and awaited his discussion with PB on other corrections.

9/26/12 – MM made other minor adjustments and printed out a final copy for the USGS!  Finished!

11/21/13 – After PB gave me some metadata, MM incorporated it into Arc10 metadata for several feature classes for Pittsboro.  In order to do this, MM had to translate .txt files into .xml files.  MM created procedures for this and it’s in the Procedures file in both the C drive and the E drive.

5/30/14 – MM got the folder with Pittsboro for the Southern half of the quad.  MM put all the Northern Portion stuff in the DISTRIBUTABLE folder under Pittsboro_2012.  MM put the Southern Portion stuff in the Pittsboro_2014 folder.  MM copied the 2012 .mxd and created the Pittsboro_PRODUCTION_2014.mxd.  MM proceeded to eliminate everything in the layout that was made obsolete with the 2014 data coming in.  Next, MM started bringing in feature classes from 2014 and removing feature classes from 2012.  Then MM started adding their layer files.  After that, MM brought in the Annotation layer for the new MapUnitPolys, and melded the Southern layers onto the Northern Pittsboro_MapUnitPolysAnno layer.

6/2/14 – MM began to symbolize the Southern symbols the same way the Northern symbols were done.  MM had to put numbers in the Symbol column, although MM had to manually put in the joint and foliation numbers, instead of using Select by Attribute and then Field Calculator.  Once MM found out how to copy from one annotation to another, MM copied the southern dip numbers to the AllPointsAnno.  Then MM had to move the Pittsboro_station_points_2011_2014 feature class to the 2012 geodatabase, because moving the dip numbers, it helped to have both feature class and annotation text in the same geodatabase (MM couldn’t move the annotation to the 2014 gdb).  Then MM started moving the dip numbers around and it is a slog, because there is only one dip number even if there are two or three symbols at a location.  MM also have to introduce new symbols to the Properties section to account for all the combinations.

6/5/14 – Continued the placement of symbols and the dip numbers.

6/6/14 – Almost finished with the symbol and dip number placements.

6/9/14 – MM finished with the placements.  MM changed the 6.7, 1 from blue to black and changed the two symbols that were tentative to 6.7, 2.  MM made the contact lines on the Southern side dotted when they crossed over Qal or water.  MM made the diabase observation dots red.  I now have to do the Northern side.

6/10/14 – MM completed the dotted Qal lines.  MM labelled the diabase lines in the north.  MM created a new Map View and brought in the feature classes for CSB.  MM symbolized everything and then made new rock unit labels.  MM brought in the stereonets and the Correlation Diagram.  MM then brought in the text as Rectangle Text.  

6/11/14 – MM brought in the Correlation Diagram annotation text.  MM also brought in the CSB annotation text, brought in a couple of things, then removed it.  MM also changed the text angle of everything from 325 to 326.  MM cleaned up a couple of other things and printed the map out.  MM made notes on what needed to be fixed and I corrected them.  MM then sent PB a GeoPDF of Pittsboro.

6/12/14 – MM gave Phil a paper copy of the Pittsboro map and he had some changes he’d like to make.  MM then made a couple of changes when I went to work.  MM brought the colored rock boxes back to next to the rock descriptions.  MM added a couple of color boxes and adjusted them.  MM also took out the transparency from the GeoTIFF.

6/24/14 – MM made the final corrections to the Pittsboro map and sent PB a pdf.  PB had earlier sent me a pdf of the corrections and MM fixed them.

6/25/14 – PB looked over the map one last time and alerted Ken that the map was ready to be reviewed.  MM printed out the map and left it on the table for Ken to review.  PB reviewed it, made a couple of changes, which MM corrected and then MM printed out one final copy.

12/31/15 - MM updated the latest version of Pittsboro map to Google Drive:
