Dear Diary – Henderson

7/31/15 – MM copied Henderson_2015_updates from T drive to C drive in preparation to update and revamp the Henderson geologic map.  MM turned the GeoChem chart into a tif image and put it in the old layout.  MM realized that when the .mxd gets revamped, it will have to be done in landscape.

8/4/15 – MM and PB consulted on what to do with Henderson.  PB suggested building a new .mxd and using Polylines_bedrock_Henderson_020811, Polygons_bedrock_Henderson_020911 and text annotation to create this new .mxd.  MM did just this.  MM also included all the point shapefiles from DB and ES in the old Henderson .mxd.  MM built new Henderson_DISTRIBUTABLE.mxd layout, which included new rock descriptions from ES.

8/5/15 – MM started to flesh out the details of the layout.  MM put in assorted text, logo, and the scale bars.

8/6/15 – MM redrew lines in NE part of quadrangle, per ES and PB.  MM also turned some lines into faults, per PB.  MM relabeled fault names, per ES and PB.  MM added rock unit text to map.

8/14/15 – MM changed long dashed lines to short dashed lines.  MM and PB modified the lines so that there are only three fault lines through the quad.

8/18/15 – MM repaired the Henderson_121009.mxd, so that it can be compared and used as a guide for Henderson_DISTRIBUTABLE.mxd.  MM put in the correct color for PPgj.

8/19/15 – MM copied hendskipdiabaselines to polylines_bedrock_Henderson_020811.  MM copied hendnwdavediabaselines_polyline to polylines_bedrock_Henderson_020811.  MM added lines to Jd and Jd2 text.

8/20/15 – MM labelled more polygons in quad.  MM relabeled internally symbols from Prgm to PPrgm, PPgj to PPrgj, Prg to PPrg and Prgf to PPrgf.  Need to do the external labels next.

8/21/15 – MM labelled external polygons.  MM added colored boxes to layout.  MM added the cross section polylines and their labels.  MM added .tif’s of four previous cross sections as place holders.  MM added some assorted text on the layout.

9/2/15 – MM labelled lengths of the four cross sections and put it next to the layout.  MM recreated the geologist’s index and placed it in the layout.  MM recreated the quad index and placed it in the layout.  Ask Phil about CZvbtf in Henderson.  Also ask Phil about Franklin County-whether Jd2 stays regular red with just an external label, or if it gets the darker red?

9/4/15 – MM brought in Jd and Jd2 boxes for rock unit descriptions.  MM spent time arranging the symbols together, occasionally changing the symbols.  MM changed the symbol for Skip’s Lf to 9.97, changed Dave’s F3 fold hinge to 9.97 and changed Dave’s Slickenline lineation to 9.17.  MM made small modifications to these locations.  MM added dip numbers to the symbols in the layout.

9/5/15 (Saturday) – MM put symbols on the layout just to fill out the layout.

9/17/15 – MM, per PB’s request, was going to put everything in one geodatabase.  Although the data is not in the format usually used by MM, MM decided it would be better to just keep everything in the Henderson_020811.mdb geodatabase in the Henderson_2015_updates folder residing in the Henderson_PRODUCTION folder.  MM also put a README file in the PRODUCTION folder, for instructions on how to open it.

11/16/15 – MM took stereonets from T drive and placed them on the C drive in C:\MMFolder\Statemap_Henderson_100k\Henderson\Henderson_PRODUCTION\Henderson_2015_updates  

11/17/15 – MM took stereonets and placed them in layout.  MM placed CSA_Henderson and CSB_Henderson datasets into Henderson_020811.mdb.  MM created two new Data Views, one each for CSA and CSB.  MM populated those Data Views with contents from each Dataset.  MM prepared each polyline feature class so that they would be turned into polygons.  Every line had to be snapped.  MM turned the polylines into polygons for both CSA and CSB.  MM added a MapUnit column for both and symbolized the polygons for both.  MM started adjusting the lines and text like “-500’” and such.  Will continue, probably Thursday.

11/23/15 – MM tweaked both CSA and CSB.  MM adjusted the angles of the foliations, for CSA, CSB, the quad and the rock unit blocks in the descriptions.

11/24/15 – MM brought Edge_match_edits_Henderson_Oxford shapefile into the Data View.  MM then brought in Oxford polylines and polygons and used these to help edgematch in Henderson.  MM created two new polygons and adjusted some linework.  MM still needs to add rock unit descriptions in layout.

11/25/15 – MM asked PB where to put the two new rock units in the description.  PB sent the email and MM put those descriptions in the main rock unit descriptions.  MM also bolded the rock unit and name of rock unit in descriptions.  MM changed orientation from portrait to landscape.  MM arranged items in layout to fit the landscape orientation.

11/30/15 – MM inserted text description for CZvcg.  MM printed the map out for PB.

12/1/15 – MM brought over Geochem_locations_Henderson from T drive and opened it in Data View.  Once verified, MM saved it as feature class into C:\MMFolder\Statemap_Henderson_100k\Henderson\Henderson_PRODUCTION\Henderson_2015_updates\Henderson_020811.mdb   MM also put Henderson_Geochem_for_Map_Dec2015.jpg into layout replacing old chart.  MM received map of Henderson with edits.  MM proceeded to correct the edits, such as stuff on the left side of the layout and west side of the quad.

12/2/15 – Continued making edits, per PB, which included changing the pattern of PPrgf and adding some fault lines that had been missing.  Next up, fixing the symbols in the layout.

12/3/15 – MM made minor changes to the symbols descriptions in the layout.

12/4/15 – MM made minor changes to the symbols descriptions in the layout.  MM swept through the quad and adjusted dip numbers, as needed.  MM added HendDaveRedLines shapefile to the Data View and copied all the diabase lines to polylines_bedrock_Henderson_020811.  

12/7/15 – MM completed edits to map and printed out map.  After more changes, MM printed out one last map.

2/2/16 - MM added declination arrow. 

3/2/16 - MM modified the text and line for geologist index.  MM added leader bars to Jd on quad.  MM added subscript to Jd2.  MM increased size of geochem symbol from 16 to 18 and modified the layout for that symbol.  MM made a couple more small edits and printed out the map for review.

3/18/16 - MM changed CZtcg polygon to CZtc to match Oxford polygons.

3/21/16 - MM changed CZcpm to CZphc to match Oxford polygons.  MM added shear decorations to CZphc and CZdqf polygons to match Oxford. 

4/6/16 - MM matched shear decorations for the newly changed polygons.  MM also changed polygons for CSA and CSB, although the decorations didn't quite match the angle that MM wanted.  MM began to make edits per KBT's review. 

4/11/16 - MM made a couple of more minor edits, but will confer with PB on names of polygons, per KBT's review. 

4/14/16 - MM completed corrections and printed the map for final review. 

7/22/16 - MM modified CZvgf and CZvgr to match colors on Oxford map.  MM also added Jenny Kelvington to upper left and added NC logo to lower left of layout.  MM printed out a copy for KBT review. 

8/8/16 - MM changed PPrg to PPrgd, per PB.  MM took rock unit description from Franklinton and put in layout.  MM moved CZvbtf/CZmi contact on northern central border to match Townsville contacts.  MM printed copy for KBT's final review.

8/18/16 - KBT noticed that there wasn't a reference for Speer 1994 for his listing in PPrgd, so PB emailed MM a reference for it and MM moved two references from the upper left to the lower left, created a new References section and added the Speer reference to it.  MM moved the Adjoining 7.5' Quadrangles from lower right to the left side of the layout above the Geologist's Index.

8/25/16 - KBT reviewed map, MM made corrections to map and we're DONE!  OFR 2016-17
