NW Durham

Dear Diary NWD:

11/09/09, 11/10/09 – PB wanted me to start Northwest Durham again as a completely new project.  PB said to start all over, except for the Qal.  So MM started a new .mxd and brought in the drg, and brought in the files from PB’s folder - NWD_revised_map_Nov2009_2.  MM took text from a Word file and made rock unit descriptions on the layout.

11/16/09 – MM brought in the polygons and labeled them.  MM brought in the Qal polygons and labeled them.  MM brought in the linework and adjusted these lines to fit the old Qal polygons.  MM created a pdf of the layout.

11/17/09, 11/18/09 – MM took PB’s master stations list and spliced them all into just stations, planar singles, planar multiples and linear features for each of PB’s, RB’s and Cindy Phillips’ measurements.

11/19/09-11/23/09 – MM arranged the dip numbers around the strike and dips.  MM made other adjustments to text as necessary.

11/24/09-11/25/09 – MM cleaned up other parts of the layout and tried to make a pdf of the layout, but was unable to.

12/07/09 – Once again tried to make a pdf of the layout, but was unable to.  MM decided to completely rebuild the mxd, because  ArcMap was acting strangely with this NWD_110909.mxd.  MM also transferred shapefiles to feature classes.

12/08/09-12/09/09 – MM rebuilt the NWD layout, made it FGDC compatible (more or less), brought in stereoscopic images, as well as stratigraphy.  MM also either copied or created legends for the structural symbols and linework.

12/21/09 – PB brought me the NWD cross section and MM scanned it as a TIF at 300 dpi.

12/22/09 – MM rectified the cross section TIF and digitized the linework.  MM then used ArcToolbox to convert the lines to polygons.

12/23/09 – Final changes.  MM completed the text on the cross section.  MM rearranged the layout so that the cross section would fit.  PB gave me changes to some of the rock unit names and MM changed them on the map and the cross section.  MM brought in the rock unit description for Zadlt from White Cross and put it in the layout and also made color changes to Zadlt.  MM then saved a pdf and sent it to PB.

7/13/15 – Realized the pdf for NWD had ^ instead of Tr.  So I changed it everywhere on the map, then saved the pdf on the C and E drive, as well as saving it on the Portal site.

12/31/15 - MM updated latest version of the NW Durham map to Google Drive:
