Middleburg

Dear Diary – Middleburg
2011 and 2012
With assistance from S. Stoddard, P. Bradley completed extensive polygon and polyline edits to map for 2011 SEGSA field trip guide and 2012 GSA field guide (Figure 3).  Edits not stand alone map.
May 19, 2015
Edits for GSA field trips added to Middleburg_edits_2015.mxd of ARCGIS project
New file names:
Polylines_bedrock_Middleburg_020911.shp
Diabase_brittle_faults_middleburg_2010.shp
Polygons_bedrock_Middleburg_020911.shp
Middleburg_additional_stations_030310.shp (data from Buford thesis – Just stations)
May 19, 2015
S. Stoddard indicated: Attached is a revised unit description file (already copied to share folder) and a picture of part of the map showing the four polygons that should be changed from ZPwms to ZPmbs.  See png file “Middleburg_exerpt for CZmbs.png”
Just examined Figure 3 from the GSA trip and the contacts look exactly the same as the new Middleburg mxd.  Make sure that Mike has the Jd2 dike labeled correctly and all the others are just Jd.
Why doesn't Buford have a brittle fault mapped where he has that string of cataclasite (see attached)?? See: Buford_fault.png
ALSO I have a new data point.  It's only one but it is a spectacular outcrop that I found by accident two years ago while taking Fodor and his grad student to see a good outcrop of the Jd2.  It is Pg1 with an enclave of ZPahg in it.  A ditch along the edge of a field.  Location is 36.42339, -78.35258.  Can you add to the map?  I have a photo that I will try to find.  I WILL MAKE A SMALL SPREADSHEET WITH NEW DATA POINTS.
The structure symbols on the 2007 geopdf look like they have been merged.  Have they?
On the 2007 geopdf there are a couple small glitches on the cross sections.  Also they should be reversed position (north section above south section), both should be no exaggeration, and the fonts should be the same. See: Middleburg_2007_geopdf_cross_sections.png

On May 28, 2015, S. Stoddard sent email with file: Middleburg_newstations_Stoddard_2015.xlsx
“Here is a small spreadsheet with three new data points for Middleburg.  It will require a tiny polygon around the last station 618”

7/9/15 – Per PB’s request, MM started Middlesex again from scratch.  MM created new folders DISTRIBUTABLE and PRODUCTION.  PRODUCTION is the folder that the old Middlesex files went into.  MM created a new layout with a tif and the extras from the old Middlesex.mxd.  Maybe tomorrow MM will merge all the symbols into one file?  This is the old Dear Diary from PB…
7/10/15 – MM began and completed the matching of the various schema of the symbols shapefiles.  On 7/13, MM hopes to merge all the shapefiles together into an ObservationPoints feature class.
7/13/15 – MM combined all the symbols shapefiles together into Middleburg_OrientationPoints feature class.  Then MM symbolized the points in the spreadsheet and symbolized the symbols on the map.  MM then added the text froom the five text shapefiles.
7/14/15 – MM re-did both cross sections.  MM also brought in new ES points.
7/15/15 – MM adjusted both cross sections to match the length of the cross section lines on the quadrangle.  MM then matched CSB with its scan to correct the depth of the cross section lines.  MM put external labels on the polygons in the quadrangle, as well as the cross sections.
7/16/15 – MM adjusted the dip numbers for North Middleburg symbols and some for the south.  MM will continue tomorrow and will figure out why some dip numbers don’t appear on the quad.
7/17/15 – MM found out that those dip numbers that didn’t show up happened to need special attention.  Either the symbol needed to be changed or the symbol type needed to be adjusted.  MM also adjusted the color of the Jd2 line, made the lines covering water into concealed contacts, added vuggy quartz and abandoned mine symbols and basically fixed anything else that needed to be worked on
7/22/15 – MM worked on the layout and the symbols and lines.  MM then printed out a copy of the map for PB.
7/23/15 – MM received edits from PB and will work on them tomorrow.  Probably.
7/24/15 – MM placed colored rock box for ZPmbs in rock unit descriptions section of layout.  MM put colored rock box for CZvbtf next to CZvt.  MM took out the “b”, added a line of description, and took out the “b” in the quad, and the attribute table.  Did not take it out in CSB, because it wasn’t there.  Must talk to PB about it.  MM cut CSA in half per PB’s suggestion.  MM also tried to make both cross sections uniform.  MM also tried to get depth lines correct on both cross sections.  MM looked at PB corrections of symbols on layout.  After changes made, MM started to look at new data dictionary to get official names for symbols for layout.  To be done Monday, I guess.
7/27/15 – MM cut and created new CZvtf polygon and contact in CSB out of CZvt polygon.  MM used PB’s data dictionary to straighten out the listing of symbols on the layout.
7/28/15 – MM finished arranging the symbols in the layout.  MM printed the map and made corrections.
7/30/15 – MM brought in more stuff from previous versions of Middleburg, including fault zone lines.  MM and PB also noticed missing stations in southwest Middleburg, so that will be taken care of tomorrow.
7/31/15 – MM copied stations from sw_middleburg_stations to Middleburg_OrientationPoints.  MM did a sweep and compared current version with 2006 version in order to add what may have been left off.  MM then printed out the map.
8/4/15 – MM added a geochem folder to Middleburg_PRODUCTION.  MM will put it in the quad on Thursday.
8/5/15 – MM added the geochem point to the map, but there was already a point at that location.  MM added a couple of dip numbers to the map.
8/13/15 – MM added the label to the geochem point, brought the foliation above the geochemical point, added the geochem symbol to the layout and then printed the map.
8/14/15 – MM added the stereonets to the layout from PB’s email.
8/18/15 – MM added ZPmbs inside the Pg1 polygon, per ES suggestion, in SW portion of quad.  MM added diabase lines for ES and DB.  MM will try and add more text to polygons tomorrow as well as more polylines.
9/1/15 – MM added a couple more labels to the polygons on the southern side of the quad.
9/4/15 – MM modified the layout to shrink it a little.  MM printed a copy of the map.

1/6/16 - MM uploaded latest version of Middleburg map to Google Drive.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BxSMuI20Ka_kfklIazNIYURRb1JXaEJkdVgxU3lraXZzNDF1TWNsNG1RY0JNMmNZZ2tRMm8

2/9/16 - MM adjusted location of ZPmbs in rock unit descriptions.  MM modified Geology mapped descriptions in layout.  MM added geochem table, award numbers and Geology Mapped dates to layout, per PB's 2/4/16 email.  MM added OFR 2016-04 to map, per PB's email.  MM changed 2 polygons in west central part of quad in Pg1 polygon from Zpum to ZPahg.  MM changed CZrh polygons to ZPpg and CZrs polygon to ZPwms in CSB.  MM printed quad sheet.  KBT looked over map and approved it for Open File status.

2/16/16 - MM added QR code to map and pdf and resaved it to the new website.
