Bayleaf Quadrangle

Dear Diary – Bayleaf

12/4/14 – As part of MM’s project to standardize the Raleigh 100k quads, MM began work on this quadrangle.  MM first spent time assessing which of the four .mxd’s would be best.  Bayleaf_landscape_no_images.mxd seemed to be the most recent entry, so I used this as the .mxd to work on.  MM went into ArcCatalog and created the DISTRIBUTABLE and PRODUCTION folders.  MM then moved the Bayleaf_081310 geodatabase to the DISTRIBUTABLE folder.  MM also moved the Layer_files folder to the DISTRIBUTABLE folder and moved everything else into the PRODUCTION folder.  MM then reopened Bayleaf_landscape_no_images.mxd and reestablished the links to the .mxd.  MM changed the Cenozoic symbol to “C”.  MM combined the six points feature classes into one feature class, Bayleaf_ObservationPoints.

12/5/14 – MM symbolized the Bayleaf_ObservationPoints feature class.  Next, MM swept the quadrangle to change the text to the FGDC standards.  When this is completed, MM will change symbols when there are multiple symbols at the same location.

12/18/14 – MM completed the sweep.

1/25/15 (Sunday) – I added an “SM_CODE” column to the Bayleaf_ObservationPoints feature class.  I put in values of 0,1 or 2.  I made sure to keep 1’s for an a and b that were one foliation and one lineation.  I also noticed in several of Dave’s entries that there would be b and c or an a and c, but no b, but I looked back (way back) and it was the same for all shapefiles for Dave.  So, oh, well.  I also reformatted the symbols, so that there are different symbols for multiple symbols at a station location.  Then I began a sweep to make sure the new symbols were correctly done.

1/28/15 – I undid the multiple symbols at a station location.  The station locations were apart and drawn to fit normal symbols being at a single location.  I continued to do more sweeping.

1/29/15 – I finished the sweep.  I made the rock units bold in the descriptions.  I extended the descriptions of two (CZcwq and CZcbh) rock units that had been cut off.
