5/14/24 - Began the Fayetteville 100k layout project. Created the main 100k map, as well as 2 logos, the 100k index and Statewide index

Raleigh100k

 Raleigh 100k - Dear Diary

5/22/24 - ES sent an email with 13 Powerpoint slides worth of edits. MM corrected most of them, before sending a pdf of the map to PB, HH and ES. MM corrected two more edits that ES wanted fixed. So MM did on 5/23/24.

4/8/24 - MM added HH's Additional lines gdb (OtherLines_Ral100k_East).

11/16/23 - MM started setting up base map for Raleigh 100k map. MM placed lat/long labels in proper places and cropped road network. MM also tried to transfer symbols from Ral100k ArcMap into ArcPro.

11/15/23 - MM set up new GeMS geodatabase (Raleigh100k_GeMS.gdb) and began to create a layout. MM created the longitude and latitude labels for the map.

11/16/23 - MM will try new way of doing things. MM will work off the S Drive, so that he can easily work from the office or the home. MM

1/16/24 - MM added Declination arrow and text, per PB's email.

11/29/23 - MM made one change to diabase symbol in upper left portion of layout, per PB suggestion. Saved another pdf and saved it to S:\Phil\MAPS. Should be completed now.

10/17/23 - MM put new number (2023-01) on the map, then created a pdf of it. Completed?

10/11/23 - PB looked over the map, then handed it to KBT to reviewed it. KBT found no errors, so MM just had to put a new number on it.

9/27/23 - PB told MM to just make the points in question just Observation Point symbols. MM did, printed the map out and will be picked up by Callie Anthony at CPO.

9/25/23 - MM gave PB the map to correct. PB did that on 9/14 and MM picked up the map on 9/22. MM corrected edits from PB today. MM asked PB about two observation points that had wrong strike/dips. Once that is taken care of, MM will print map for PB.

8/25/23 - MM completed the rest of the changes - corrected the Correlation Diagram, putted in concealed contacts and labelled the diabase lines. MM tried to send PB an image, but ArcPro refused to export an image. Not sure why. MM will create one at Archdale on Monday.

8/24/23 - MM symbolized Emily's points, finished up most of the map, and then straightened up the layout, especially in the upper right portion with the lines and symbols.

8/23/23 - MM moved dip numbers (and the occasional text symbol) to their proper places. Also brought in Emily's points near the bottom of the quads.

7/28/23 - MM received a PowerPoint from PB yesterday.

7/27/23 - While still at Archdale, MM continued moving the dip numbers around.

7/26/23 - While at Archdale, MM started moving the dip numbers around the Observation station symbols.

7/21-25/23 - MM changed the contour lines into brown contour lines. MM then spliced away thje contours in the hundreds and created its own feature class. MM then created annotation for the hundreds feature class and then made sure the numbers were in the right place.

7/20/23 - MM brought in a preliminary contour layer from the USGS. MM converted it to a shapefile and brought it, as well as the map box, to ArcMap. There, MM clipped the contour shapefile to the box, and brought this clipped contour layer back to ArcPro.

7/18/23 - MM brought in more text in layout. PB agreed on 24k layout landscape. MM tried to bring in contours, but was unsuccessful at the time.

7/7/23 - MM brought in new lineaments and MRDS folders from PB and Teams. MM brought the lineaments feature class in and copy/pasted into GeologicLines feature class. MM also brought in the MRDS points feature class. MM arranged symbols and text on layout. MM changed layout from Portrait to Landscape after the map elements just wouldn't work in the Portrait orientation. MM continued labeling the MUP and made sure the coverage of the labels was spread out. MM extended the traverses to match the map area. MM created a 50k layout, in case PB preferred that over 24k layout.

6/29-6/30/23 - MM cleaned up all the feature classes and they now come out of SnowCamp_Kimes_DELIVERABLE_v1.gdb. MM now has the full and complete OrientationPoints_SCK, with most of the attribute columns filled in. MM also cleaned up and tightened the layout. MM still needs to add the layout symbols for the lines and points and also has to work on OrientationPoints_SCK at Archdale. MM still cannot figure out why it does not work with OrientationPoints at home with the State laptop.

6/22/23 - MM created Quad Index view, Traverses view, StateIndex view and placed more explanatory text on layout. MM also cleaned up a little bit of the folder, although there is still a little bit more to do. PB also gave MM stereonets and ObservationPoints thru Teams.

6/19/23 - MM completed Correlation View and placed in layout. MM finally decided to make the layout Portrait. MM continued to play with the layout.

6/16/23 - MM continued working on the layout, as well as focusing on the Correlation View.

6/15/23 - MM started working on the layout.

6/14/23 - MM continued to move the chess pieces on the Portrait layout. MM started symbolizing the feature classes, like MUP and CAF. MM did not finish with the MUP yet.

6/13/23 - MM began the process of creating this two-quadrangle project. MM downloaded data from PB on Teams to a folder on the external hard drive. MM created a Layout View and brought in some of the feature classes for these two quadrangles. MM brought in ancillary text on the sides of the layout. MM created the longitude/latitude text. 

Powers Thesis

6/9/23 - MM made laptop-specific layer file for OrientationPoints feature class.

6/8/23 - MM populated attribute table for MapUnitPolys_Powers.

6/2/23 - MM created concealed CAF's and used them to split MUP's that were created accidentally when alluvium polygons were created. MM populated some of the CAF and OverlayPolylines attribute tables.

5/30/23 - MM cut lines from ContactsAndFaults and put them in newly created OverlayPolylines_Powers feature class. MM created Temp polygon layer to bring in polygons created by OverlayPolylines_Powers. MM then copy/pasted them into OverlayPolys_Powers feature class. MM will work on creating concealed CAF and modify the MUP's.

5/26/23 - MM completed digitizing ContactsAndFaults. MM then used those contact lines to create MapUnitPolys_Powers, using the SP schema for MapUnitPolys. MM put dip numbers and numbers for the pink circles.

5/24-25/23 - MM continued digitizing ContactsAndFaults.

5/23/23 - MM completed digitizing the ObservationPoints. MM began to digitize the ContactsAndFaults.

5/16/23 - MM finished the georeferencing the images. MM created feature classes for ContactsAndFaults, MapUnitLines, ObservationPoints and OverlayPolys. MM began to digitize the ObservationPoints. MM needs to fix the symbol style so that it reflects the FGDC symbols.

5/12/23 - MM georeferenced SW, W, NW, NC and NE segments of Plate 1.

5/11/23 - MM scanned Powers Thesis Plate 1

Virgilina

5/4/23 - After consultation with PB, MM put the three georeferenced images on the S drive here: S:\Phil\Virgilina, so that Phil's underlings at CPO can work with them.

5/3/23 - MM created the Virgilina project in ArcPro. MM brought in the two images that PB included in his email - Outcrop_Map_of_the_Virgilina_Copper_District_of_Person_and_Granville_Counties_North_Carolina and Crop_Geologic_map_of_the_Virgilina_district_of_Virginia_and_North_Carolina. MM cropped the Copper District map into UPPER and LOWER maps and georeferenced them.

Harris Thesis

5/2/23 - MM, after discussion with PB, split Plate 4 points from HughesThesisStations. MM populated the attribute tables with the description of the rock units assigned to the stations.

4/19/23 - MM georeferenced Figure 5 as a pdf, jpeg and a tif. The jpeg worked in the ArcPro project, so MM went with it. MM completed digitizing points for Plates 3 and 4.

4/18/23 - MM copied a previous Harris_Thesis and created a new HarrisThesisSymbols feature class. MM then began to digitize the points.

4/17/23 - MM georeferenced the Plates except for Plate 5.

4/14/23 - MM scanned Plates 3, 4, 5 and Other Map to get them ready for project. MM set up geodatabase and brought in several feature classes to begin the project.

4/10/23 - MM started folder.

Fayetteville 100k

4/4/23 - MM tried and (for the most part) failed to georeference a scanned image of Butler's 1974 map of Mamers.

4/2/23 (Sun) - MM finished all the adjustments of the Hicks map.

3/31/23 - New georeference of the Cokesbury/Mamers map and then MM adjusted the previous digitized lines to match new location of newly georeferenced map.

3/29/23 - MM filling in more attribute table values.

3/26/23 (Sun) - MM finished digitizing the Bulletin 95 lines and digitized all (except Qal) lines for the Cokesbury_Mamers map.

3/24/23 - MM digitized most contact and fault lines for the Fayetteville 100k, as far as NCGS Bulletin 95's map is concerned.

3/23/23 - MM is searching through the computer for Raven Rock geology that PB said might be useful for the map. MM found this source when searching today:

MM will add on layers to the geodatabase and see what happens. MM has added vertexes to Fay100k box and MM then began drawing the Nutbush Creek fault in CAF.

3/22/23 - MM talked with PB and we got Fayetteville 100k geology project started. MM created GeMS database from a GeMS toolbox and created the geodatabase.
