Saxapahaw

Dear Diary - Saxapahaw

8/16/22 - PB requested gdb and layer files, so MM took this occasion to clean up everything, so that all the feature classes are in the gdb and all the feature classes have their own layer files.

8/8-8/9/22 - MM printed out paper copies of the map to review, and eventually completed the map as OFR2022-02 on 8/10/22.

7/28/22 - MM did complete the edits, but when MM sent PB a pdf of the map, the edits were incomplete. MM completed them, after reviewing a PB email, dated 7/26. MM will wait until 8/2 to review them, in comparison to Silk Hope. Also, MM shrunk size of observation station points from 10 to 8 and made the changes in the attribute tables, as well.

7/20/22 - MM made most of the edits from PB email on 7/20. MM will complete the edits tomorrow, if all goes well.

7/19/22 - MM made tif without contours into one with a transparent white background in ArcMap, so that colored rock polygons will show through the base map. Once that was done, MM saved as a pdf and emailed to PB.

7/14/22 - MM gave up on original base map and went back and modified 2019 pdf in Adobe Acrobat to turn into a tif (without contours), so that base map will work on map.

7/8/22 - MM added streets and street labels to map.

6/28/22 - MM put thicker contour lines for the "-50" lines and labelled the "-00 and "-50" lines. MM finished completing the assorted text in the layout, MM looked in the ObservationPoints and found which ones were diabase and turned them into Circle 4 Mars Red 10. MM also tightened the layout. Layout went from 42" x 40" to 42" x 37".

6/25/22 - MM started, worked on and completed the Correlation Diagram and placed it in the layout.

6/24/22 - MM made changes to the layout in the symbols area. MM made sure contacts from several feature classes are dotted in Qal. MM started working in Correlation window.

6/23/22 - MM worked on and almost completed CSA ,although the roads and streets need to be completed. MM put the rock unit boxes next to the descriptions.

6/22/22 - MM loaded traverse from PB for all of Chapel Hill 100k. MM clipped out traverse for Saxapahaw and added it to layout. MM labelled all MapUnitPolys and OverlayPolys on map, including leader bars, if necessary. MM drew Qal polygon in lower center where nodes were not connected and polygon did not draw.

6/17, 6/20-22/22 - MM created dip numbers and arranged them around the symbols. MM completing this on 6/22.

6/15/22 - MM dealt with copy/pasting from Points_StationLocations_Saxapahaw to the  OrientationPoints feature class. MM then put in the SM_CODE values and the symbol values in the attribute table.

6/10/22, 6/13-14/22 - MM broke up inferred lines through Qal polygons and turned them into concealed contacts. MM started QC'ing polygons that were created by Bezier curve contacts. (There have been several small and ghost polygons). MM redid some contacts and moved some polygons to match the vertices. MM symbolized GeologicLines feature class.

6/7/22 - MM finished connecting OverlayLines and OverlayPolys to map boundary. MM breaking up inferred contacts and making them concealed when they pass over Qal rock units.

6/5/22 (Sunday) - MM made sure all MapUnitOverlayLines had connecting nodes, and then turned them all into OverlayPolys polygons. MM started matching OverlayLines and OverlayPolys to map boundaries.

5/24,25,27/22 - MM worked on the layout. PB provided the rock unit description text, the references and the stereoscopes. MM put these items on the layout. MM also got the linework and transformed it into the MapUnitPolys. There was a problem with the MapUnitPolys displaying properly and MM will look into it on 5/31.

4/28/22 - MM georeferenced new 2019 pdf of Saxapahaw as tif - Sax_cropped.tiff. (it took a while - think Groundhog Day).

12/10/21 - MM georeferenced Saxapahaw_NoCollar_geo.tif.tif, so that the DRG would move to from Alabama to its proper place in Saxapahaw. It is now called Rectified_Saxapahaw_NoCollar_geo.tif.tif.

12/6/21 - MM brought in 2019 Saxapahaw tif images, both with collar and without.

12/3/21 - MM brought in WGS quad box for the quad, per PB suggestion. MM continued to create MapUnitPoly styles.

12/2/21 - MM started transferring previous Saxapahaw feature classes from earlier version of the quad into new GeMS versions. MM also tried creating Styles for various MapUnits after not being able to get the old Saxapahaw .lyr to match up with the new MapUnitPolys..

12/1/21 - MM asked PB what's next and PB said try Saxapahaw. MM started to prepare Saxapahaw on the external hard drive in preparation for the work.

9/24/21 - MM has created a new project, .gdb and feature dataset for this quadrangle. MM created a new layout, as well as new map views for Correlation, GeologistIndex and Traverses. MM added new corner coordinates on the layout.

10/15/18 - MM, in preparation of transferring feature classes to Piedmont_Compilation, merged Qal contacts, diabase and cross section polylines into OtherLines feature class.

3/1/11 - 3/18/11 - MM created database for Saxapahaw from HH and/or PB's data for OFR 2011-04.

Piedmont Compilation

Dear Diary - Piedmont Compilation

2/20/20 - MM brought Batch1_EditTrackingStart_August30_2019_Stoddard into the .mxd, after loading it from C:\MMFolder\Piedmont_Compilation\Tracking_Piedmont_Compilation_Effort\Edit_Tracking_Piedmont_Compilation.gdb
MM began making corrections from this ES list.

1/29/20 - MM finished looking for corrections to be made and, after consulting with PB, created two new columns "Features" and "Features_Abbrv" which will contain the feature classes that need to be corrected and the abbreviations for those feature classes.

1/27 - 1/28/20 - MM continued to look for corrections to be made and added them to the EditTrackingPiedmontCompilation_Medina_Batch1 feature class.

1/21 - 1/24/20 - MM created new feature class to list all the corrections that need to be made.  MM listed in EditTrackingPiedmontCompilation_Medina_Batch1 all the flaws noted in the Compilation map.  PB will eventually collect several people's spreadsheets, combine the error lists and give them back to MM to use in order to correct the map.

8/27/19 - MM continued work with folds today.  MM continued standardizing the attribute tables for OverlayLines_Folds_Piedmont.

8/26/19 - MM worked with folds today.  MM added folds along the north, south and west edges of Orange County that got excluded in the merge with the PiedmontCompilation.  MM also continued standardizing attribute values for the feature classes, although now, it's just OverlayLines_Folds_Piedmont.  PB wanted the folds in a separate feature class, because he doesn't think future users of this data on the internet will care about folds, so the folds needed to be differentiated from the regular Overlay_Lines.

8/23/19 - MM worked with folds today.  MM transferred all the folds from OverlayLines into a new feature class called OverlayLines_Folds.  MM also added OrangeCounty_Folds to this new feature class.  MM will also add a couple of folds from the edges of Orange County.  MM also transferred CZcgs contact lines from OverlayLines to ContactsAndFaults.

8/22/19 - MM established the H drive version of the PiedmontCompilation.mxd as the new primary version of the compilation map.  MM took some .lyr's from the S drive and put them on the H drive version of the five feature classes.  MM made the Saxapahaw geologic polygons similar to the adjoining White Cross polygons that were either (l) or (u), after first adding an "h" to the Saxapahaw rock unit names.  MM also brought in the OrangeCounty_folds and saved a temporary version of the feature class to determine which folds have been added to the Orange County quads of the compilation.

8/21/19 - MM continue work on standardizing the attribute tables and the symbology.  PB requested that a couple of Saxapahaw rock unit polygons be matched with next door White Cross, including adding (u) or (l) and h to a few polygons.  While doing this, MM noticed that polygons were disappearing.  When almost all of the polygons for MapUnitPolys_Piedmont disappeared, MM stopped all work.  MM, in consultation with PB, decided to make the H drive the new headquarters for the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  The S drive where the .mxd was located, is full and unstable for future datasets and .mxd's.  Work will begin tomorrow re-establishing the H drive version as the new central location.  Work will also need to be done on the day (more?) of data and work that was lost today.

8/20/19 - MM worked on adding Horton SIM 2981 to PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM also continued to standardized the attribute tables.

8/19/19 - MM added three feature classes each (ContactsAndFaults, OtherLines and MapUnitPolys) from Milton_Leasburg and Milton_Leasburg (Hibbard) to the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

8/16/19 - MM added three feature class data from ClusterSprings_Roxboro and Alton_OliveHill to the Collective.  It was not always easy.

8/15/19 - MM continued standardizing values in the attribute tables of the feature classes.

8/14/19 - MM continued working on standardizing attribute tables in various feature classes.  MM also assigned colors similar to adjacent rock polygons at the State line with Virginia.

8/13/19 - MM worked on standardizing the attribute table values for ContactsAndFaults.

8/9/19 - MM worked on straightening out the OtherLines and standardizing the line code in the Symbol column.

8/6/19 - MM is trying to get LakeWheeler in preparation for adding some of its data to the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  This involves adding Type and Symbol columns and placing values into those rows.  Added emphasis on the folds.

8/5/19 - MM worked on the other border quads today.  After making sure these feature classes had MapUnit in their attribute tables, MM saved the MapUnitPolys and OverlayPolys for the border quads into their respective FeatureDatasets.  MM then loaded these feature classes into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM then colored the polygons blue (the ones that didn't instantly symbolize) until future notice.

8/1/19 - MM worked on John H. Kerr Dam today.  After arranging the line feature classes into ContactsAndFaults, OtherLines and OverlayLines; and after making sure all the attributes were correctly listed, MM placed these and OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys into a temporary .mxd.  MM then loaded all five feature classes into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM symbolized the last three polygon colors.

MM also worked on Bear Creek and Bennett today.  After making some minor adjustments after topology, MM spliced Qal contacts from either OtherLines or CAF and brought the five feature classes from each quad into temporary .mxd's.  MM did final checks of the five feature classes and loaded them into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

7/31/19 - MM worked on Henderson today.  After making sure the Type and Symbols columns were in the attribute tables, MM split OtherLines from ContactsAndFaults.  MM then put these two feature classes, as well as MapUnitPolys, into the transition feature dataset.  MM then loaded these three feature classes into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM then symbolized some of the remaining MapUnitPolys.

MM also worked on Warrenton today.  After making sure the Type and Symbols columns were in the attribute tables, MM split OtherLines and OverlayLines from the ContactsAndFaults feature class.  MM put these three feature classes, as well as OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys, into the Warrenton feature dataset on the S drive.  MM then loaded these five feature classes into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM filled in colors of 7 polygons from MapUnitPolys.

MM also worked on TownsvilleSE today. After making sure the Type and Symbols columns were in the attribute tables, MM split OtherLines and OverlayLines from the ContactsAndFaults feature class.  MM put these three feature classes, as well as OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys, into the GeologicMap_Townsville feature dataset.  MM then loaded these five feature classes into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM filled in the colors of 3 uncolored polygons from MapUnitPolys.

7/25/19 - MM worked on Vicksboro today.  After making sure the Type and Symbols columns were in the attribute tables, creating OverlayLines and transferring Qal contacts from ContactsAndFaults, MM loaded the five feature classes into PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  Then MM filled in the colors for the remaining polygons in Vicksboro.  MM also started symbolizing some of the remaining CAF's and OtherLines.

7/23-7/24/19 - MM worked on Ingelside, Kittrell, Louisburg and Franklinton.  MM loaded the Franklin County portion of those quads using the Franklin County OFR portion. MM then filled in the rest of the quads with the feature classes of the original OFR's for those quads.

7/19/19 - MM worked on E Burlington NE, E Mebane and E Saxapahaw today.  After making sure that the Attribute tables matched, MM saved the five feature classes to the transition feature dataset on the S drive.  Then MM loaded those feature classes into PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

5/16/19 - MM worked on Stoddard4quads today.  MM had to take faults and move them to ContactsAndFaults.  MM then transferred the ContactsAndFaults, OtherLines and MapUnitPolys to the transition FeatureDataset.  MM then verified that each had Symbols and Text values before they were loaded into PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  Then MM finished by colorizing and patterning the remaining 6 or 7 units.

5/15/19 - MM worked on Inez today.  MM had to add Symbol columns and then add values to ContactsAndFaults and OtherLines.  MM had to transfer Qal contacts from CAF to OL.  MM then put these two files, as well as OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys, into the transition feature dataset, then ultimately, PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM then finished by colorizing six polygons.

5/14/19 - MM worked on Littleton today.  MM had to improve the attribute tables for both ContactsAndFaults and OtherLines to reflect multiple symbology on a line.  For instance, the Symbol column reflected a combination of Overturned Anticline and Doubly-plunging.  After this was completed, MM loaded these two, as well as MapUnitPolys and OverlayPolys into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

5/10/19 - MM worked on Hollister today.  MM took the polylines and polygons and turned them into ContactsAndFaults, Otherlines, OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys.  MM loaded all five feature classes into PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

5/9/19 - MM worked on Essex today.  MM took the polylines and polygons and turned them into ContactsAndFaults, Otherlines, OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys.  MM used OverlayPolys to create OverlayLines.  MM added Type and Symbol columns to a couple of these feature classes.  MM loaded all five feature classes into PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM then brought in the Mylonite Zone polygon and added it into the OverlayPolys feature class.

4/26/19 - MM worked on Red Oak today.  MM took the polylines and polygons and turned them into ContactsAndFaults, Otherlines, OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys.  MM added them to the PiedmontCompilation, and colored the remaining MapUnitPolys.

4/25/19 - MM worked on Eastern Geology (KG's Rocky Mount area geology) today.  MM created an EasternGeology_PostOFR and brought in contacts from five quads and polygons from six quads.  MM used the PostOFR to add Type, Symbol and MapUnit columns to the two feature classes and merged the polygons to prepare to load into PiedmontCompilation, which MM eventually did.  MM then colored the polygons that were not automatically colored.

4/24/19 - MM continued work on the East Half of the Raleigh 100k today.  MM clipped Franklin County polylines and polygons to the EH Ral100k box.  MM compared these polygons and polylines to the underlying Ral100k geology.  MM took out Franklin geology that was the same as Ral100k geology. MM used ArcToolbox/Analysis Tools/Overlay/Erase to clip out the underlying Ral100k geology that was clipped to the shape of Franklin County.  Once the underlying Ral100k geology was erased, the Franklin County polylines and polygons were merged with the remaining Ral100k geology.  The remaining polylines were split into ContactsAndFaults and OtherLines.  The three feature classes were loaded into the PiedmontCompilation and the polygons that were not colorized automatically, were colorized manually.

4/23/19 - MM continued work on the East Half of the Raleigh 100k map today.  MM worked on the Franklin County overlap with the EH Ral 100k.  MM deleted some Franklin County contacts that covered the same area as the EH Ral 100k.  MM also deleted a couple of polygons that were the same name and covered the same area as polygons for the EH Ral 100k.  Most of the rest of the polygons for Franklin were still there, because the name had changed.  There were also a few contacts for Franklin that were unique and MM will have to wait to discuss with PB.

4/17/19 - MM continued work on the East Half of the Raleigh 100k map today.  MM made sure all four feature classes had the Type, Symbol or MapUnit columns, and then populated the attribute tables with the values.  MM then added the ContactsAndFaults_clipped and MapUnitPolys_clipped for Franklin County.  MM then clipped those two feature classes to the East Half of the Raleigh 100k.

4/11/19 - MM worked on the East Half of the Raleigh 100k map today.  MM saved a copy of the Raleigh 100k as EastHalf_Ral_100k_PostOFR.mxd.  MM then clipped out the east half of the map and created ContactsAndFaults, OtherLines and MapUnitPolys for that .mxd.

4/9/19 - MM worked on Garner today.  MM renamed four feature classes into their new normal names and placed them into a PostOFR_Garner.mxd.  MM then created the OverlayLines feature class from the OverlayPolys feature class.  MM then made sure all five feature classes had either Type, Symbol or MapUnit columns before loading them into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM then had to add colors to five polygons.

4/8/19 - MM created OverlayLines, OverlayPolys and OtherLines from shapefiles in RaleighEast_111412.mxd.  MM added Type and Symbol columns to the line feature classes and MapUnit column to the polygon feature classes.  MM then brought in these five into PostOFR_RaleighEast to verify everything was right.  Then MM loaded them into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

4/4/19 - MM added five feature classes from PostOFR_WakeForest.mxd into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM clipped Ral100kcompilation2 to the Raleigh East quadrangle.

4/3/19 - MM worked on cleaning up paperwork in binder for last 10 quads completed.  MM also began work on Raleigh East.
4/2/19 - MM added these five feature classes to the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

3/29/19 - MM worked on Wake Forest today.  Using the WakeForest folder on the D:\MIKE'S FOLDER\Assorted Map Files\Statemap - Raleigh, MM used Wakeredlines.shp to create OtherLines_WakeForest.  MM used Wakeqqallines101205.shp to create OverlayLines_WakeForest. MM used Wakeqalpolygons101205.shp to create OverlayPolys_WakeForest.  MM used Wakemergedlines.shp to create ContactsAndFaults_WakeForest.  MM used Wake_rock_polygons.shp to create MapUnitPolys_WakeForest.  MM then put all five feature classes into a PostOFR_WakeForest.mxd.  MM then checked all the attribute tables to make sure at least the Symbol, Type and MapUnit columns were in there.

3/25/19 - MM worked on Grissom today.  MM brought in four feature classes into a temporary .mxd and spliced off the OverlayLines from the OtherLines.  MM then loaded the five files into PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM then went to Grissom's OFR to find the remaining 10 polygon colors and added them to the PC.mxd.  MM then started symbolizing the remaining lines in OtherLines and OverlayLines.

3/21/19 - MM colored in the remaining 8 polygons.  MM also completed the Qal polygon in the center of the polygon.

3/20/19 - MM worked on Wilton today.  MM brought in four feature classes into a PostOFR_Wilton.mxd.  In this .mxd, MM spliced out OverlayLines from OtherLines and switched a couple of other lines from ContactsAndFaults to OtherLines.  MM then made sure all the feature classes had columns and values for Symbol and Type and then loaded the five feature classes into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM is still working on coloring the remaining 8 polygons.

3/15/19 - MM worked on getting the RGB values for 18 polygons in Oxford that have no colors in PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

3/14/19 - MM worked on Oxford today.  MM brought four feature classes into a PostOFR.mxd.  MM turned OvelayPolys into OverlayLines.  MM then loaded these feature classes into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

3/13/19 - MM worked on Clarksville South today.   MM loaded clarkso_polygons directly into the MapUnitPolys_Piedmont feature class.  Only the Zft unit showed color.  The rest of the units will be done later.  Perhaps getting the colors from the paper map?  MM also worked on Stovall and loaded Stovall_Hamme_polygons into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

3/7/19 - MM worked on Creedmoor today.  MM brought three files into the PostOFR. and spliced away OtherLines and OverlayLines.  MM then loaded the now-five files into the PiedmontCompilation.  MM also worked on Stem today.  MM brought four files into the PostOFR_Stem and spliced the Qal contact into the OverlayPolys feature class.  MM then brought all five files into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

3/1/19 - MM worked on Bayleaf today.  MM brought over four files to the PostOFR.mxd and spliced away a OtherLines and reassigned a couple of lines from the ContactsAndFaults layer to a more appropriate layer.  MM then loaded the now-five files into the Group Collective.

2/28/19 - MM discussed John Nickerson's Coastal Plain units for the Raleigh 100k with PB.  MM brought in a new feature class that had all the CP units for the Raleigh 100k.  MM will continue to bring in the Qal units for each quadrangle of the Raleigh 100k, but not any of the coastal plain units.  MM finished snapping the nodes of the lines to the quad box, and the MapUnitPolys were created.  All five layers were brought into the PiedmontCompilation.  MM also brought in Qal and Qt polygons, as well as the OverlayLines, from Angier.

2/27/19 - MM tried to "sew" the nodes of all the topology-indicated problem lines to the polygons.  After a while, PB suggested just using the lines to create new polygons instead of what MM was doing.  So MM did that by creating polygons from the previous lines.  However, MM realized that the lines needed to be snapped to the quad box.  MM began that process and should be completed tomorrow.

2/26/19 - MM worked on Angier today.  MM brought only the ContactsAndFaults and the MapUnitPolys into a temporary .mxd.  MM is still waiting for PB to let him know which coastal plain data to use.  There was no OtherLines file to bring over.  MM also worked on Raleigh West today.  MM realized that the linework and polygons needed work in order to match.  MM created a temporary .mxd to try to fix the problems.

2/25/19 - MM worked on Apex and Fuquay-Varina today.  MM brought the five files from both OFR's into a temporary .mxd.  MM had to reallocate some lines in both quadrangles so that they were now in their proper files.  They were then brought into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  For Fuquay-Varina, MM asked PB about John Nickerson's coastal plain units.  PB said to wait until 2/28, when PB would give MM a coastal plain feature class for the entire Raleigh 100k.  For now, the OverlayPolys and OverlayLines for Fuquay-Varina just had Qal.

2/22/19 - MM worked on SE Durham and Cary today.  MM brought all the files from the SED OFR into a PostOFR.gdb.  MM then brought in the DurhamCounty_bedrock_polygons.  MM clipped the OFR rock polygons to Wake County, and then merged them with DurhamCounty.  MM brought all five files into the CompilationQuads folder for SEDurham, and then brought themn into the PiedmontCompilation collection.  MM brought in Cary's OFR files into a temporary .mxd.  MM then added Symbol and Type columns to most of the five files.  MM then saved the files into the CompilationQuads folder and then into the Piedmont Compilation collective.  MM added a Raleigh 100k style file for future problems getting these future quadrangle MapUnits properly symbolized.

2/21/19 - MM worked on NE Durham today.  MM brought all the files from the OFR into a PostOFR.gdb.  MM brought in DurhamCounty files and then superseded the NED files for the polygons and overlay files.  MM merged Granville and Wake portions of the NED files to the DurhamCounty files and then saved it all to the CompilationQuads folder for NE Durham.  MM then loaded the files into the PiedmontCompilation collective.

2/13/19 - For Lake Michie MM completed colored in all the rock polygons that were brought into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

2/11/19 - For Lake Michie, MM put the files into the PiedmontCompilation_Quads feature dataset, then loaded the five files into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  When MM looked at the files, several polygons were not colored and MM will look at them later.

2/9/19 - For Lake Michie, MM merged Durham's and Granville's files so that they can get put into the PiedmontCompilation.

2/7/19 - For Lake Michie, MM brought over copies of the five feature classes from the PiedmontCompilation, so that when Durham's files and Granville's files get merged, it can be placed in the PC schema and then brought into the PiedmontCompilation.

2/4/19 - MM worked on Lake Michie.  MM brought Durham County files and the whole part of Lake Michie into a PostOFR.mxd.  MM clipped the Durham County files to the Lake Michie quad box.  MM then clipped the OFR part of Lake Michie using Granville County.  MM will then later combine the files from two counties into one file for each of the five.

1/29 - 1/30/19 - MM worked on SW Durham.  MM processed the five files in the usual way, but the ContactsAndFaults did not come in to the PiedmontCompilation.mxd like it should.  It took several tries, but finally, ContactsAndFaults came into the .mxd.  Also, MM had to add a Symbol column to the attribute table and MM had to bring in the Orange County portion of a Qal layer and merge it with the remainder of SWD's OverlayPolys layer.

1/29/19 - MM worked on Rougemont.  MM verified that Orange and Durham County maps did not have more recent data, and after minor shuffling of lines from OtherLines to OverlayLines, MM then copied all five files into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.

1/16 - 1/17/19 - MM tried to end polygons for Caldwell and Cedar Creek at the Orange County line, but after talking with PB, MM deleted the previous polygons, and brought back the full quad MapUnitPolys for both quads.

1/16 - 1/17/19 - MM worked on NW Durham.  MM first had to save the feature classes into a new file geodatabase.  NW Durham had been a personal geodatabase, which can have many problems associated with it.  MM then brought the file gdb. feature classes into a PostOFR.gdb, where MM added Symbol columns to the polyline feature classes.  MM also clipped polygon feature classes from Orange and Durham counties and merged them into a new MapUnitPolys feature class.  MM then brought these new files into the NWDurham folder in PiedmontCompilation_Quads and then saved them into the PiedmontCompilation.gdb.

1/15/19 - MM worked on Caldwell today.  MM had to make minor changes to two polylines and two polygons to match the Orange County polylines and polygons.  These were on the right edge of the SE portion of the quad.  Other than that, normal transfer operation from the quad to the Compilation.

1/14 - 1/15/19 - MM worked on Cedar Grove.  MM had to add southern border of Zdsi to ContactsAndFaults in SE quadrant.  Other than that, MM saved the 5 feature classes from the PRODUCTION folder to the transition and then on to the Compilation.mxd.

12/18/18 - MM worked on Hillsborough today.  MM clipped contacts and polygons from Orange County and placed them in the PostOFR.mxd.  MM worked on files until they were ready to transfer to transition feature dataset on S drive.  MM then loaded these files into the group collective on the .mxd on the S drive.

12/14/18 - MM worked on Efland today.  MM clipped contacts and polygons from Orange County and placed them in the PostOFR.mxd.  MM worked on files until they were ready to transfer to transition feature dataset on S drive.  MM then loaded these files into the group collective on the .mxd on the S drive.

12/13/18 - After new tracking strategy from PB, MM added files from Chapel Hill and White Cross (ContactsAndFaults, MapUnitPolys, OtherLines, OverlayLines, OverlayPolys) to those files in the PiedmontCompilation.gdb.  MM also completed the OverlayLines, OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys feature classes in the SW corner of WhiteCross to complete what got cut off in bringing it in to the group collective.

11/27/18 - MM digitized points from Steller thesis map.

11/20/18 - MM digitized points from Stetler thesis map.

11/19/18 - MM georeferenced Plate 1 and 2 of Stetler's thesis for Spring Hope/Bailey.  MM will then begin to digitize points for the theses on Plate 2.

11/15/18 - MM completed digitizing points for AC's Lucama quad sheet.

11/14/18 - MM completed digitizing points for AC's Bailey quad sheet.

11/9/18 - MM scanned AC and BC paper maps for Lucama and Bailey and georeferenced them, in order to digitize the bedrock stations for those quadrangles, in order to add them to the Raleigh 100k Collection.  MM began by creating folders, geodatabases and .mxd's for both quadrangles.  MM then created ObservationPoints_bedrock feature classes for both quadrangles.  MM also added Type, Symbol, Label, Notes, Azimuth and Inclination columns in the Attribute table for both feature classes.

11/2-11/8/18 - MM added most quads of the Raleigh 100k to the quad-specific feature datasets in the Points_PiedmontCompilation_Mike.gdb.  However, Lucama, Bailey and Spring Hope have no points to add.  MM will look into things.

11/1/18 - PB wanted MM to change directions with Raleigh 100k feature classes going into Piedmont Compilation.  Instead of cleaning up schemas and bringing the points into the Compilation, PB wants MM to just bring the various point files into Points_PiedmontCompilation_Mike.gdb and worry about the schemas later.  MM brought in SWD, SED, Cary, Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Angier, Lake Wheeler and Raleigh West.

10/31/18 - MM started with Green Level, but didn't get to finish because PB will handle that quad, as part of the Chatham compilation.  MM completed working on the Cary quadrangle.

10/30/18 - MM finished eliminating as much duplicate polylines as he could find.  Topology will take care of the rest.  MM deleted coastal plain lines that were on the edges of Cokesbury quad.  MM also assigned colors to the OverlayPolys feature class, although they may be overruled later.  MM was told by PB to create ObservationPoints feature class for Raleigh 100k.  In preparation of this, MM will prepare the quads to make sure those Observation Points will be able to easily transfer to a compilation points feature class.  MM began with SE and SW Durham.
10/29/18 - MM created .lyr file for OtherLines_Piedmont.  MM also put circles or polylines around either edgematches or blank MapUnitPoly units.  MM added Silk Hope Qal polygons to the OverlayPolys_Piedmont feature class.  MM added Cokesbury Coastal Plain polylines to OtherLines_Piedmont and started the process of eliminating duplicate polylines.

10/25/18 - MM created .lyr file for ContactsAndFaults_Piedmont and is in the process of making one for OtherLines_Piedmont [used to be GeologicLines_Piedmont].

10/24/18 - MM, in discussions with PB, halted any more progress in adding feature classes and instead, focused on what we have in Chatham County.  MM copied this .mxd and made it PiedmontCompilation_Chatham.mxd  MM added earlier feature classes for Chatham County into the Piedmont compilation feature class (for the two polylines and the two polygons).

10/23/18 - MM added four feature classes from Cokesbury and Fuquay-Varina.

10/22/18 - MM added four feature classes from Southwest Durham, Green Level and New Hill.

10/19/18 - MM, after creating a file geodatabase for White Cross, added four feature classes from White Cross into the PiedmontCompilation.mxd.  MM added four feature classes from MerryOaks.  MM added four feature classes from Farrington.  MM added polygon feature classes for Orange, Durham, Wake and Franklin counties, just for the hell of it.

10/16/18 - MM added four feature classes from Siler City and Pittsboro.

10/15/18 - MM added feature dataset for Saxapahaw, and brought in feature classes for ContactsAndFaults, OtherLines [now GeologicLines], OverlayPolys and MapUnitPolys.  MM also did the same for Silk Hope and Siler City NE.

10/12/18 - MM added OverlayPolys for Liberty and Coleridge.  MM and PB also discussed that PB will be responsible for the points for all the quadrangles.  MM added feature classes - ContactsAndFaults, OtherLines [now GeologicLines], Overlay Polys and MapUnitPolys.

10/5/18 - We are in a holding pattern after discussing the long-term ideas of this project.  We are deciding whether to have a live link of the feature classes to the compilation map or whether to have the feature classes saved to each particular quadrangles database attached to the geodatabase.

10/4/18 - MM created a PiedmontCompilation_Tracking.mxd in Arc to graphically show the progress of this project.  MM looked at the LIBERTY quadrangle, found the latest feature classes and then loaded the data for four feature classes (ObservationPoints, ContactsAndFaults, OtherLines [now GeologicLines] and MapUnitPolys) in ArcCatalog into the four new feature classes that were created when GeMS created a new geodatabase.

10/3/18 - After discussions with PB, we are going to try to set up one GeMS geodatabase with all the polygons, points and contacts/faults for the Piedmont quadrangles.  This will be used, perhaps in conjunction with Asheville.  MM began adding feature classes from the COLERIDGE quadrangle (in order to go basically west to east to north).  MM looked at COLERIDGE, found the latest feature classes and then loaded the data for four feature classes (ObservationPoints, ContactsAndFaults, OtherLines [now GeologicLines] and MapUnitPolys) in ArcCatalog into the four new feature classes that were created when GeMS created a new geodatabase.  MM also took Piedmont Compilation tracking from PB and added it to his computer.
